Easy Crochet Granny Blanket

 It's been a while since I posted anything to this blog - a lot of life has happened since my last post in 2019 and I seriously considered closing this blog, BUT ... Anyway, in the recent past, I have been, among other things, de-cluttering most areas of my life and one of the most enjoyable is busting my stash of art materials and wool.

Here is a pattern for an easy Granny Square Blanket which I started in January this year:



 

Granny square Blanket

 This blanket is made using 8 ply wool. You could use any colour combinations which suit you

 Materials

- 4.5mm crochet hook

100gm balls (each approx 200 m per ball) of 8 ply wool in the following amounts and colours

- 4 white

- 2 pale pink

- 2 beige

- 2 shocking pink

- 2 red

- wool needle

 

Abbreviations

sl st      - slip stitch

ch        - chain

ch sp    - chain space

sc         - single crochet

dc        - double crochet

tr          - treble crochet

 

Method:

For each square: (Using the chosen colour)

- Make a magic ring

R1:   Ch 3 (this counts as 1 dc for the entire pattern), 2 dc, ch2, (3 dc, ch 2) Repeat 3 times,  sl st in the top of ch3, pull wool to tighten the ring if need be

R2: Ch 3, 1 dc in the next 2 dc. In the ch 2 space, work the following: (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc ). This is the first corner. * 1 dc in the next 3 dc. In the next ch 2 space work: 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc**  Repeat 2 more times. Sl st in the top of ch 3 from R1.

R3: Ch 3, 1 dc in the next 4 dc. In the ch 2 space, work the following: (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc). *1 dc in the next 7 dc. In the next ch 2 space work: 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc.**  Repeat twice. 3 dc, Sl st in the top of ch 3 from R2.

R4: Ch 3, 1 dc in the next 6  dc. In the ch 2 space, work the following: 6 dc * 1 dc in the next 11 dc. In the next ch 2 space work: 6 dc**  Repeat twice. 4 dc, Sl st in the top of ch 3 from R3.

(For the white edging on each square):  Change to white wool:

R5: Starting at a corner - * sc 2, then sc 1 into each dc until row end, sc 2 into last st at corner.** Repeat 3 times.

To sew blanket together: Whip stitch squares together in required pattern

 


Shell Edging: (Using white wool):

Base row: sc into each sc of R5. sc 3 (in each corner)

Shell row 2: Ch 1, sc into 1st st * Miss 3 sc, 7 tr into next sc, miss 3 sc, 1 sc into next sc** Repeat  till edging is complete.
